PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT AND BEHAVIOR

Parents hereby pledge to abide by the following Code of Ethics:

  1. I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and fellow parents at every tournament, game, practice or other UC ELITE Club event.

  2. I will place the emotional and physical well being of my child ahead of my personal opinion and/or desire to win. I understand that for a team to grow and prosper individuals must give more than they take. I will make a commitment to be a giver.

  3. I will support coaches and officials working with my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.

  4. I realize that the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal substances could result in immediate dismissal from UC ELITE Volleyball Club.

  5. “24-Hour Rule” shall be defined as the agreement to refrain from contacting coaches, directors, for a minimum of 24 hours, to initiate filing any complaint following an incident, suspected problem or issue involving my child, the team or coach. The 24-Hour period shall be defined as the next business day following any incident. Should the incident occur on a weekend, Tuesday will be regarded as the first available day of contact.

  6. I will be positive and refrain from any public outburst that could be detrimental to the Team of the UC ELITE Club program, my child, her/his coach or any of her/his teammates. I will handle any complaints in a professional manner and will observe the “24--Hour” rule. At no time will a coach be verbally attacked or approached about such issues at any tournament or practice.

  7. I understand that practice is for players and is a key learning period. It is also a time for an athlete to be away from parental pressure to perform. Parents are not permitted to participate in practices, player huddles, team meetings, etc.

  8. I also understand that the coach has my child’s best interest in mind and is the professional in charge of the team. I will refrain from distracting my child by not talking to and/or not making gestures toward her/him during practice, tournaments and team meetings except for positive encouragement.

  9. The practice prior to any tournament must be attended to be eligible to play in the first game or match in that tournament. Exceptions will be at the sole discretion of the coach and/or Director of Coaching.

  10. I understand that every player may not receive equal playing time in tournaments due to various factors in competition (i.e. attempting to qualify for Nationals, seeding, coaching decisions, excessive missed practice time, illness, injury, substitutions, etc.)

  11. Criticizing an athlete, coach or team in public is not acceptable. If you have something to say, discuss it within the parameters of the entire team or with the specific individual. Gossip is divisive and creates separation.

  12. I agree that should someone approach me with a problem or rumor that does not directly involve me, I will encourage them to go directly to the person it does involve (i.e. the coach, another parent, directors of Coast, etc.).

  13. I realize that UC ELITE is an excellence program and we are committing our financial support for the entire season, even if our daughter chooses to leave the program.

  14. I will not post on any social media site with the intent to initiate, hurt, intimidate or humiliate any player, coach, official or spectator. The posting of negative, demeaning or derogatory comments will not be tolerated. These acts shall be considered harassment and may result in the immediate removal from the club. Furthermore, if I see anything of concern from or about an official, another coach, player or club member on a social media site, I will immediately contact my child’s coach or the Club Administration. As a parent, I understand that I am accountable for the actions of my child on social media sites. I will stress to my child the importance of proper conduct on these sites and provide parental oversight to prevent any type of cyber-bullying by my child.

  15. I will treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability.

STAY-AND-PLAY INFORMATION

(Source - Team Travel Source (TTS))

  • WHAT IS ‘STAY-TO-PLAY?’

Stay-to-Play means that in order to participate in the tournament or event, teams and athletes must stay in one of the official hotels set up in the official tournament housing block. All reservations must be made through the designated reservation portal and must appear on the official rooming list and final compliance report. Stay-to-Play means that all teams that are attending a specific event are required to stay in a partner hotel.

  • THE HISTORY OF STAY-TO-PLAY

Years ago, Stay-to-Play did not exist. Athletes and families would travel to events and stay wherever they liked. At a glance, this seems perfectly fine. But as tournaments grew and hotels became aware that these events would be returning year after year, hotels began capitalizing on this. They were able to charge much higher than average rates because the rooms were in such high demand. With the adoption of Stay-to-Play, housing companies are now able to go to these hotels and negotiate. They are able to tell them that if they do not ‘play nice’ and offer reasonable rates that parents can afford, they will not be a tournament hotel option, hence not getting the hotel traffic for the event that they want and need. When a Stay-to-Play policy is put in place and managed properly, it benefits the hotel, the event producers and the parents attending. When the hotels, event producers and parents are both happy, the event continues to grow and it is a win-win-win for everyone involved.

  • WHO DOES STAY-TO-PLAY APPLY TO?

Stay-to-Play applies to mainly Regional/National Teams. All National Qualifiers have their own stay-to-play requirements that may differ from one another. Popular tournaments that require stay-to-play include Far Westerns National Qualifier, Pacific Northwest Qualifier, Red Rock Rave National Qualifier, and more. Since National Qualifiers are considered “big tournaments”, all teams scheduled to attend these competitions should expect to complete housing requirements.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IF A TEAM DOES NOT FULFILL THEIR STAY-TO-PLAY REQUIREMENT?

If a team fails to complete their stay-to-play requirement, the team is at risk of not participating in the tournament.

  • IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET STAY-TO-PLAY REQUIREMENTS WAIVED?

Some tournaments allow teams to “buy out" of their stay-to-play requirement. This is only an option for select tournaments. With the “buy out” option, teams are able to pay to have their housing assignments waived for that tournament. If a team decides to do this, they are 100% responsible for splitting the fee, if the tournament permits.

  • DOES UC ELITE COORDINATE ROOM BLOCKS FOR TEAMS?

No, UC ELITE does not reserve room blocks for teams. Based on feedback from previous seasons, we understand that families prefer to book their own hotel as it provides flexibility. Room blocks are NOT required and we encourage families to stay where it is appropriate and best for them. However, if a team would like to reserve a room block - a team parent is more than welcome to set one up for the team.
